Join us as we embark on a virtual journey to this captivating Canary Island, discovering the many treasures it holds.

Our personal experience

The weather in Tenerife is much warmer in south than in north, which is why we booked a hotel on the south part of the island. The temperature difference between north and south can be of even 10 degrees Celsius. We planned to visit all island because it’s very easy to get everywhere with a car. And you can get back at the hotel in the evening no matter where your hotel is located on the island.

Flights are usually cheaper if you plan land on Tenerife North Airport and if you want to rent a car (which is very cheap on the island) you can get by car in the south part, where we recommend booking your hotel. You can search online for car rentals and make a reservation beforehand (we rented a blue topaz Fiat 500). You pick up the car at the airport and you can drop it at any of the two airports on the island.

Weather is very warm during summer, we stayed in Tenerife for 8 days, end of May – beginning of June. Because of this make sure you get plenty of protecting sun cream (I used UV50 protection and it wasn’t too much).

We stayed at HOVIMA Jardin Caleta Hotel, it was very cheap and we got half board meals. It’s not a fancy hotel, it’s quite big with lots of families (it has playground spaces for kids and a big pool) but it’s clean, the food is very good and various, lots of seafood, fresh fruits. At lunch we were eating on the island, where we happened to be at that time.

A tapestry of natural wonders

Tenerife’s diverse landscapes are a testament to its volcanic origins. At the heart of the island stands Mount Teide, Spain’s highest peak and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Travelers can take a cable car ride to its summit for panoramic views that stretch as far as neighboring islands. The lush Anaga Rural Park, with its ancient laurel forests and rugged trails, offers a unique hiking experience. For a taste of paradise, the golden sands of Playa de las Teresitas beckon beach lovers.

Cultural encounters and historical richness

Beyond its natural beauty, Tenerife boasts a rich cultural tapestry. In the capital city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, modern architecture blends seamlessly with historic buildings. The Auditorio de Tenerife, an architectural marvel, hosts world-class performances. Delve into the island’s past in La Laguna, a UNESCO-listed town with charming streets and colonial-era architecture. Don’t miss the vibrant Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, one of the largest and most dazzling carnivals in the world.

Culinary delights and gastronomic adventures

Tenerife’s culinary scene is a tantalizing fusion of flavors. Indulge in local dishes such as “papas arrugadas” (wrinkled potatoes) served with “mojo” sauces, and fresh seafood prepared in traditional Canarian style. Wander through local markets like Mercado de Nuestra Señora de África to discover a treasure trove of local produce, cheeses, and artisanal crafts.

Thrilling adventures and water sports

Adventure enthusiasts will find their thrill in Tenerife too. The island’s diverse geography makes it a playground for outdoor activities. From paragliding over cliffs and diving in crystal-clear waters to surfing and exploring underwater volcanic formations, the possibilities are boundless. The waters around Tenerife are also home to a variety of marine life, making it a fantastic spot for whale and dolphin watching.
