Lausanne – one day trip in a lovely hilly city

We visited Lausanne for two days in early June and we found a lovely hilly city, with a beautiful view laying on the Geneva Lake. The city is located in the region on Vaud and it is the home of the International Olympic Committee. Also, it hosts the Olympic Museum and the Olympic Park. The museum was closed when we got there but we visited the Olympic Park and you will see some great pictures below. The Old Town gets you lost one it’s medieval streets, in a vacation dreamy mood where you can eat, have a glass of wine or just dream.

The Lausanne Gothic Cathedral of Notre Dame, dating from the 12 century is looking over the city offering a memorable landscape. You can also go inside the cathedral and it’s free. Next to it you can find the Lausanne History Museum, which offers a great intro in the city history and evolution. We only spend an hour inside, but you can spend easily half a day is interested in reading through all the history descriptions and studying all exhibits.

If your are looking for a great specialty coffee shop, you can try The Coffee Project, a cozy coffee place in the city centre. We also got a quick tour in Vevey, a small city close to Lausanne, where you can get by taking a short 15 minutes train trip. You can spend a few hours in Vevey, again, just visiting the streets and seeing the Swiss mountains by the lake’s end. We ended the weekend with some burgers and some ribs, that we made in the barbecue areas from the Lausanne woods.
