How to visit the spectacular Liechtensteinklamm (Liechtenstein gorge)

Introduction

We stayed in Austria three days and we choose to stay in Alpendorf village, in Pongau area, situated at about 50 km south of Salzburg and we stayed at Der Alpenblick hotel. One of the attractions you can visit around Pongau is the spectacular Liechtensteinklamm (Liechtenstein gorge), which is also what we did. It’s famous because it’s emerging you into a great experience where the turquoise waters went deeply digging into the mountains, leaving behind this gorge full of waterfalls thundering among the huge rocky walls and cliffs.

The walls can go up to over 300 m around some parts of the gorge and the opened to the public length of the gorge is around 1,2 km. The gorge actually goes on much longer, it’s said to be around 4 km long, however only the first 1,2 km are opened to the public. You will reach the end when you get to a waterfall that is 49m tall – called Liechtenstein wasserfall. Please make sure to wear adequate equipment for this walk, the route can be slippery on some parts and it’s also always in the shadow for most of the time, however the path it’s absolutely safe and well maintained as you’ll see in the pictures.
