Furka Pass is one of the most beautiful and known passes from the Swiss Alps. We managed to get here in the second day after it was open this year. It has an altitude of 2.431m, which makes it the third highest mountain passes from Switzerland, after Nufenen and Umbrail. The Furka Pass is connecting Realp with Gletsch and it was used as a shooting location in the Goldfinger James Bond movie. As you will see below, there is even a portion of the road that is named James Bond Street.
No matter if you are travelling by car or bike, you get to see spectacular views from many points. This time we went by car but next time we’ll definitely go by bike. Although, before that we need a bit more training, because with the bike it is a difficult but wonderful journey. Furka Pass has a length of 16.5 km and it takes around 3-4 hours by bike. Other options are to park the car somewhere at the top and take various hiking trails for discovering the peaks. It is definitely worth a stop at the Belvedere restaurant that overlooks this incredible place. From here you can take a walk to Rhone Glacier Ice Grotto.
