Introduction
Châtel is a charming village located in the heart of the French Alps in Haute-Savoie. It is a popular destination for winter sports enthusiasts, as it offers a wide range of activities such as skiing, snowboarding, and ice skating.
Activities
One of the most notable features of Châtel is its picturesque setting, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains and forests. The village is also home to a number of charming old buildings, including the Church of Notre Dame de l’Assomption, which dates back to the 14th century.
In addition to its winter sports offerings, Châtel is a great place to visit in the summer months as well. The area is home to a number of hiking and biking trails, making it a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. There are also a number of lakes in the surrounding area, perfect for swimming and picnicking.
We were only passing by for half a day through Châtel, but we do plan to come again and spend at least a couple of days here. Since being a small village, parking options are limited, but there is a generous paid parking place right in the center, Parking souterrain de Châtel, that we recommend, which you can find here.
Culture
If you’re looking to indulge in some local culture, Châtel is home to a number of traditional French festivals and events throughout the year. The Fête de la transhumance, for example, celebrates the arrival of the sheep as they return to the village after spending the summer in the high alpine pastures.
Conclusion
Overall, Châtel is a charming and picturesque village that offers something for everyone. Whether you’re looking to hit the slopes in the winter or enjoy the great outdoors in the summer, Châtel is an excellent destination to consider.
