Hike details
The 5 lake hike from Pizol is probably one of the top and most known hikes from Switzerland. The hike goes around 5 awesome mountain lakes and offers spectacular views of the UNESCO world heritage site of Sardona.
The hike can be completed in a day and takes around 4-5 hours (breaks included), with a total length of 10 km and an altitude gain/loss of 750/1.100m. However, we decided to wild camp near one of the lakes and enjoy for two days the beautiful lakes situated well above 2.000m. We pitched our tent at Wildsee, which is a lake situated at 2.450m above sea level. Another good option is to set up tent near Schottensee.
The sunset at the lake was breathtaking and we were able to enjoy the peace and calm of the mountains. After sunset we had dinner and waited for the night to come, when we saw brighter than ever the core of the Milky Way. The night was not very cold, considering we were at 2.500m. The lowest temperature was around 10 degree Celsius. In the morning, after the sun comes out, it gets all of the sudden really warm.
