Introduction
We stayed at Camping Jungfrau during our visit to the Lauterbrunnen Valley. The campsite is surrounded by some of the most impressive mountain scenery in Switzerland, with steep rock walls, alpine meadows and waterfalls visible from the valley.
Its location makes it particularly convenient. You can reach the centre of Lauterbrunnen on foot, while trains and cable cars provide access to destinations such as Wengen, Mürren, Kleine Scheidegg and the Jungfraujoch region.

The campsite
Camping Jungfrau is a terraced campsite with pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes. Depending on your travel style, you can also rent a chalet, bungalow, mobile home or other accommodation.
The pitches are arranged across a green, park-like area. Some offer beautiful views towards the mountains and Staubbach Waterfall. The site feels practical rather than isolated, which is useful when you want easy access to shops, transport and excursions.
The impressive waterfall and surrounding peaks give the campsite a special atmosphere, especially in the morning and evening when the valley is quieter.
Facilities
The campsite provides the main facilities needed for a comfortable stay:
- Modern sanitary blocks with showers.
- Free Wi-Fi across the campsite.
- A small supermarket with fresh bread and regional products.
- Restaurant serving Swiss specialities and pizza.
- Communal kitchen.
- Laundry facilities.
- Children’s playground.
- Barbecue areas.
- Ski room and heated boot rooms during winter.
- Tourist information and railway ticket services at reception.
The restaurant is convenient after a long day outdoors, while the shop and communal kitchen make it easy to prepare simpler meals yourself.

Exploring the area
Camping Jungfrau is a good starting point for both easy walks and demanding mountain excursions. A short walk takes you into Lauterbrunnen, where you can visit Staubbach Waterfall and explore the village.
From the railway station, you can travel towards Wengen and Kleine Scheidegg. The cableway from Lauterbrunnen provides access to Grütschalp and Mürren, with numerous hiking routes starting in the surrounding villages.
You can also visit Trümmelbach Falls, walk through the Lauterbrunnen Valley or plan longer hikes towards the Schilthorn and Jungfrau mountain areas.
Practical tips
- Reserve early during the summer holidays and popular weekends.
- Choose the correct pitch category for your equipment; tent, caravan and motorhome pitches are not interchangeable.
- Check the minimum-stay requirement before booking.
- Reception is generally open from 08:00–12:00 and 14:30–18:30.
- Late arrivals are possible until 21:30, but contact the campsite in advance.
- Quiet hours are from 22:00 to 07:00, and vehicles cannot enter the site during the night.
- Pack for changing mountain weather, even in summer.
- Use public transport when possible, as parking and traffic in the valley can be busy.
Conclusion
Camping Jungfrau is more than just a place to spend the night. Its location beneath Staubbach Waterfall, close to Lauterbrunnen and the main mountain transport connections, makes it a convenient base for discovering the Jungfrau Region.
The campsite is especially suitable for travellers who want to combine outdoor activities with practical amenities. After a day of hiking or sightseeing, it is pleasant to return to a quiet pitch, enjoy the mountain views and relax in the heart of the Lauterbrunnen Valley.
