Introduction
We stayed at Aaregg Camping during our visit to Lake Brienz. The campsite is situated on a small peninsula surrounded by turquoise water and mountain scenery, giving it a particularly relaxing atmosphere.
Unlike a campsite located in a town, Aaregg feels closely connected to the lake. Several pitches are directly beside the water, and the site has its own shoreline, harbour, swimming area and sunbathing lawn.

The campsite
Aaregg offers around 180 tourist pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes. Standard and larger Royal pitches are available, while selected pitches are located directly on the lakeshore. Most pitches have electricity, and some also include fresh-water and waste-water connections.
For visitors without camping equipment, the campsite rents furnished bungalows, wooden sleeping huts, pods and apartments. Some bungalows are positioned directly beside Lake Brienz, making them a good option for travellers who want the camping atmosphere without bringing a tent or caravan.
The site is organised like a small holiday village, with trees, open grassy areas and enough space for families to relax.
Lake access and activities
The lake is the main highlight of Aaregg Camping. You can swim from the campsite, relax on the lakeside lawn or launch a canoe or paddleboard from the shore.
During the summer months, children can enjoy the water trampoline, while the playground and adventure areas provide activities away from the lake. The campsite also has a small harbour and jetty.
The clear water, surrounding mountains and peaceful shoreline make it easy to spend an entire day at the campsite without planning a major excursion.
Facilities
The campsite provides the facilities needed for a comfortable stay:
- Modern sanitary facilities, including accessible facilities.
- Washing machines and tumble dryers.
- A campsite shop and bistro.
- Restaurant Aareggstube with views over Lake Brienz.
- Barbecue areas.
- Children’s playground and adventure area.
- Camper service station.
- Electric-vehicle charging.
- Dog facilities.
- Wi-Fi.
- Harbour and direct lake access.
The restaurant is useful after a day of sightseeing, while the shop and bistro are convenient for breakfast, drinks and simple meals.
Exploring from Aaregg
The campsite is close to Brienz village, where you can walk along the lakeshore, visit traditional wooden houses and take a boat trip on Lake Brienz.
Aaregg is also well positioned for day trips to:
- Ballenberg Swiss Open-Air Museum.
- Giessbach Falls.
- Brünig Pass.
- Rothorn Bahn.
- Interlaken.
- Iseltwald.
- Aare Gorge.
- The Jungfrau Region.
You can combine a relaxed lakeside day with hiking, sightseeing or a boat excursion. This makes Aaregg suitable both for travellers who want an active holiday and for those who prefer a slower camping experience.
Practical tips
- Reserve early for lakefront pitches and summer weekends.
- Check whether your chosen pitch includes water and waste-water connections.
- Bring swimming equipment because the campsite has direct access to Lake Brienz.
- Ask about minimum-stay requirements during high season.
- Check reception hours if you expect to arrive late.
- Bring a shade tent or sunshade because some pitches are more exposed.
- Consider renting a bungalow or sleeping hut if you are travelling without camping equipment.
- Check boat and railway timetables before planning day trips.
- Dogs are welcome, but confirm the current rules when booking.
Conclusion
Aaregg Camping is an excellent choice for staying beside Lake Brienz. Its peninsula location, direct lake access and views of the surrounding mountains create a peaceful holiday atmosphere, while the modern facilities make the stay comfortable.
The campsite works particularly well as a base for exploring Brienz, Ballenberg, Giessbach Falls and the Jungfrau Region. At the same time, you can spend an entire day swimming, relaxing by the lake and enjoying the campsite without needing to travel anywhere.
