Introduction

We visited Flumserberg to walk the Rohan Red Deer Adventure Trail. The route is a gentle downhill walk through the alpine landscape, with interactive stations and information boards placed along the path.

The story gives children a reason to keep walking. Rohan the red deer and Spiro the woodpecker need help collecting ingredients for a magic potion to cure Mungg Flumsi’s illness.

Reaching Prodkamm

The adventure starts at the Prodkamm mountain station. From Tannenheim, take the Prodalp Express gondola to Prodalp and then continue by chairlift to Prodkamm.

Before starting the hike, collect the Rohan activity or stamp card. It is available from the Flumserberg cable-car offices, the Prodkamm mountain restaurant or the Prodalp restaurant.

Once you arrive at Prodkamm, follow the trail signs. The mountain panorama is already impressive, with wide views across the Flumserberg landscape and towards the Churfirsten and Walensee region.

Interactive stations

The trail includes play stations, interactive posts and information boards. At each stop, children can solve a puzzle, complete a task or learn something about animals and nature in the alpine environment.

The stations are spread out naturally along the route, so the walk feels like a small adventure rather than a sequence of indoor-style activities. Children can collect stamps or clues as they progress and help move the story forward.

The trail is mainly downhill, which makes it easier for families than a route with a long ascent. However, the descent can still be tiring for small children, especially on uneven terrain.

Arriving at Prodalp

The trail finishes at Prodalp, where there are several additional family attractions. You can stop for a meal or drink at the mountain restaurant, use the playground or visit the CLiiMBER climbing area.

The FLOOMZER summer toboggan run is another popular activity at Flumserberg. Depending on the season and opening times, it can be a good way to finish the day after completing the Rohan trail.

From Prodalp, take the gondola back to Tannenheim.

Practical tips

  • Collect the activity card before taking the chairlift to Prodkamm.
  • Allow extra time for children to complete every station.
  • Wear proper shoes with good grip.
  • Bring water, snacks and sun protection.
  • Take a light jacket because the weather can change quickly at 2,000 metres.
  • Check the operating times of the gondola, chairlift and gondola return before starting.
  • The route is not suitable for ordinary pushchairs because of the mountain terrain.
  • Plan additional time for the playground, CLiiMBER or FLOOMZER at Prodalp.
  • Check the current summer opening dates and trail conditions before travelling on Flumserberg website

Conclusion

The Rohan Red Deer Adventure Trail is an enjoyable family hike in the Flumserberg mountains. The downhill route, alpine scenery and interactive stations make it accessible and entertaining, while the story keeps children involved from Prodkamm to Prodalp.

It works well as a half-day excursion, but you can easily extend the visit with lunch, the playground, CLiiMBER or the FLOOMZER summer toboggan run. For families looking for a combination of nature, movement and adventure, this is one of the most appealing themed trails at Flumserberg.
