A quick visit to Iseltwald
We stopped in Iseltwald for a short break during our journey around Lake Brienz. The village is small, peaceful and easy to explore on foot. Even with limited time, you can walk through the old streets, visit the lakeshore and enjoy beautiful views across the lake.
The traditional wooden houses give Iseltwald a charming and authentic atmosphere. The village sits directly beside the turquoise waters of Lake Brienz, with forests and mountains rising behind it.
Iseltwald Bay
The most famous place in Iseltwald is the small bay with its wooden pier. It became internationally known after appearing in the South Korean series Crash Landing on You. The pier is now one of the most photographed places on Lake Brienz.
The jetty is a good place to take photographs, but it can become busy during the day. For a quieter experience, visit early in the morning or later in the afternoon. Access to the pier currently requires a CHF 5 fee, while walking through the village and along the lakeshore is free.
What to see in a short stop
If you only have about one hour, we recommend:
- Walking from the village centre towards Iseltwald Bay.
- Taking photographs of the pier, lake and surrounding mountains.
- Admiring Seeburg Castle from the lakeside.
- Exploring a few of the traditional village streets.
- Having a coffee or buying a small snack at the village shop.
The village shop also serves as the local tourist information point and provides information about boat connections, hiking routes and nearby activities.
If you have more time
With two or three hours, you can extend your visit with a longer walk along the lake. Iseltwald is also the starting point for a lakeside hike of approximately 5 kilometres to Giessbach Falls. The walk takes around 1.5 hours, and you can return by boat when the service is operating.
You can also swim, kayak or try stand-up paddling in Lake Brienz during the warmer months.

Practical tips
- Allow at least one hour for the village and lakeshore.
- Visit early if you want fewer people at the pier.
- Wear comfortable shoes, even for a short walk.
- Check parking and boat timetables before arriving.
- Bring coins or a payment card if you want to access the pier.
- Combine Iseltwald with Brienz, Giessbach Falls or Ballenberg.
Conclusion
Iseltwald is a perfect short stop on Lake Brienz. It does not require a full day to enjoy its main attractions: a peaceful village, beautiful lake views, traditional houses and the famous wooden pier.
Even a brief visit gives you the opportunity to slow down, take photographs and enjoy one of the most scenic corners of the Bernese Oberland.
